An exhibition of Sophie Erin Cooper's work created during her residency. Preview: 6 - 8pm Wednesday 2nd September 11am - 6pm 2nd - 6th September 44AD Artspace

Sophie Erin Cooper

Born in 1991 in the Brecon Beacons, Wales, and now living in Bath, England. I graduated from Bath School of Art and Design in 2013, having studied Fine Art BA(Hons).

I create works that centre around an ethereal aesthetic, playing with natural forms, paint, graphite and fine pens. I am attracted to both expressive and intricate mark making, exploring these separately and combined. My fascination with the fragile and dreamlike mostly involves the use of soft colours and distorting imagery into a new visual language. My work is fluid and subtle, aiming to grasp a pleasant curiosity.

I am interested in creative curating and displaying work in unconventional ways. I have explored this through wall drawings, window paintings and extending works beyond their frames. This also crosses over to my explorations into temporary artwork; site specific installations and ephemeral works - I am interested in art as an experience.

Creating artwork for me is a form of play, resulting in many outcomes. I am interested in composing self contained pieces, whilst others will peek out of corners or spill across walls and floors theatrically. I am intrigued by both immersing the viewer as well as only giving them a glimpse.
